Everything You Need To Know About CNC Machines

What Are CNC Machines?

Cnc machines (เครื่อง cnc, which is the term in Thai) are electro-mechanical devices widely used for machine tools like lathe, milling, drilling, etc. The full form of “CNC” is Computer Numerical Control. It enhances the working efficiency and ability by using computer aids. Engineering and Prototype Companies use CNC machines for milling and processing varied materials, which contain wood, metals, and plastics. It has become common among manufacturing industries. It offers versatile and automated means to produce high-quality parts in bulk. Its higher accuracy and repeatability make it the most suitable machine for manufacturers.

How Do These Machines Work?

The use of Cnc machines is quite interesting because it uses a computer base. These machines rely on digital instructions from CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) or CAD (Computer-Aided Designs) files. They provide CNC machines with a roadmap to assemble the designs. Then, the machine examines the designs for cutting prototype parts. It combines tools into common units or cells which helps the machine to draw. While CAD helps to improve the designs, CAM has two different codes. All the programs are written in that code and feed into the machine for performing various operations. It includes the turning and grooving part on a lathe.

Cnc Machines have a very broad category of operations and processes. Some of the common types of CNC are:

  • CNC Laser Cutting Machine
  • 5-Axis Machine
  • CNC Lathe Machine
  • Pick And Place Machine
  • CNC Plasma Cutting Machine
  • CNC Router Machine
  • 3D Primer
  • CNC Milling Machine

Pros and Cons

CNC Machines reduce labor costs and diminishes the margin of error in manufacturing. Mass- manufacturing becomes much easier as it delivers identical output invariably. It gives flexible designs which enable the software in reprogramming the parts and improve mistakes.

The set-up cost of the CNC machine is very high. The companies have to take loans to obtain these machines. Because CNC machines are operated via computer, there is the possibility of unnoticeable errors during manufacturing. It can abstract subtractive wastes which are harmful to our environment. Therefore, it is very important to have a waste management process. This will help in recycling the waste extracted out from these machines.

Using a CNC machine benefits both the employees and the manufacturers. It is safe to use this machine. Also, it increases profits due to its efficiency. As it advancement increases, new job opportunity will also increase.
